I was out to photograph sunrise in the sunflower fields near Denver, Colorado in mid-August. I happened to notice this coopers hawk sitting on a fence post near me. As I slowly approached I could tell it was about to take flight. I was very lucky as the coopers hawk flew down the fence line right past me. The field of sunflowers and clouds make for a wonderful background as I captured this image.
Growing up in Minnesota, I was always captivated by the sight of the sun rising over misty lakes and the desire to find a way to capture those images on film. That desire to capture a beautiful sunrise has always stayed with me. When I moved to Colorado more than twenty years ago, the inspiration of our state’s beauty and my love of photography met and became one. At home or when traveling the world, I enjoy finding unexpected ways to view both the common and the extraordinary and share these through my photography.
